Small Business Deal Advisors, LLC is pleased to announce the successful sale of its client, A&W of Ortonville, to an individual investor.

With a rich history dating back to 1959, A&W Ortonville has been a beloved destination for American cuisine and its famous root beer for over six decades. The restaurant’s original drive-in style evokes a sense of nostalgia, attracting people from across the metro Detroit area to Ortonville to experience the charm of this timeless establishment.

For the past 46 years, the Perris family has nurtured and expanded the legacy of A&W Ortonville, becoming an integral part of the community. In 1977, the Perris family took over ownership, and in 2007, Nicole Perris purchased the restaurant from her mother. After sixteen years of dedicated ownership, Nicole decided it was time to pass on the torch to focus on spending more quality time with her family. To facilitate the transition and find a well-suited new owner for the business, she engaged Small Business Deal Advisors.

“Over the past 16 years, I have truly cherished running the family restaurant and selling it has been a bittersweet experience. I would like to extend my gratitude to Scott Nicholson for his guidance throughout the sale process and for finding a well-qualified buyer. I am eager to witness the restaurant continue to grow and thrive under the new ownership,” Nicole Perris remarked.

A&W Ortonville was acquired by the individual investor, Norman Barman of Goodrich, Michigan. Norman is the owner of Universal Video, Inc., a well-known provider of ATMS, jukeboxes, audio visual systems, pool tables, and arcade games. A true entrepreneur at heart, Norman also owns two other successful restaurants, The Fenton House Restaurant and The Milford House Bar & Grill. The acquisition of A&W Ortonville is Norman’s first venture into the franchise industry.

Norman stated, “I have lived nearby for years, and I have always noticed how bustling the restaurant is. When I came across the chance to acquire the business, I knew I had to take it. Scott was very helpful throughout the process, and I look forward to carrying on the strong legacy that the Perris family has built.”

Scott Nicholson, Mergers and Acquisitions Advisor at Small Business Deal Advisors, was the lead advisor on the transaction.

“A&W Ortonville is an iconic staple in the community and is beloved by so many. The Perris family has done a fantastic job growing the business over the last four decades. Norman is a great fit to take over, having already acquired two successful restaurants in the area. I have no doubt that under Norman’s capable leadership that A&W Ortonville will continue to thrive and remain a beloved destination for generations to come,” commented Scott Nicholson.

Small Business Deal Advisors provided A&W Ortonville with expert guidance throughout the entire process of selling the company, including the creation of promotional materials, extensive marketing efforts, consulting during negotiations, due diligence, and closing. The transaction was managed by SBDA Associate, Scott Nicholson.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
